Business Confidence - What's Holding You Back?

You see them everyday, those who ooze confidence about their business.  They know how to market, to network and to sell. Opportunities tend to fall in their lap and things just always seem to go right for them - so what is their secret?

Well, a lot of it stems from their belief system.  Here we will go through a simple process to give you the confidence to get out there and make your business the success you want it to be!

"Whether you think you can or can't you are right"

Henry Ford

Overcoming Your Limiting Beliefs

  • Firstly, create an awareness of the limiting beliefs you hold. Write out as many as you can think of.   Now challenge the beliefs.  Find examples of people or scenarios you know or have heard of, that defy the belief.  It may even be times when you have defied that belief yourself.  Evidence helps satisfy the logical side of your brain.
Example
"I cannot succeed because I am too old / too young / my business is different / the marketplace is hard"   Is this true all of the time?  Of course not, many people around the world have started on their path to success at an older or younger age, with businesses no-one would have imagined could succeed, and during times of economic instability.
  • Now write out the negative impact that holding these limiting beliefs are having on your business growth.  This is a reality check to help stimulate your desire to move forward.
  • Re-write the limiting beliefs in a more positive empowering way - stating what you would like your beliefs to be. This is not just wishful thinking; your words are powerful and can have a big impact on the actions you take.
  • Write out the positive impact your new empowering beliefs will have for your business, so you can feel excited about reaching your goals.  Put emotion into it to give it more punch.

Why does this process work?  It helps to challenge your thinking about what is possible and that in itself can boost your confidence and help you to take the actions necessary to succeed.

Maintaining Your New Beliefs

  • Practice, practice, practice.  Read over your new empowering beliefs and the positive impact they will have, morning and night.  It is a great way to start and finish your day, which can have a big influence on your actions.
  • Be kind and patient with yourself along the way.  It takes time to change old habits.  Remember to acknowledge your strengths and to also celebrate any wins you have so you feel like you are accomplishing something. If you find yourself slipping back into your old ways, ask yourself ‘Is what I am doing or about to do, going to bring me closer to or further away from my business goals?'
  • Express yourself in your business - It is much less stressful to be a first rate version of yourself than to be a second rate version of what you think you should be.  This in itself can help maintain confidence because it just feels natural, it feels right and it feels good.  When you feel good it shows in all you do.

Business confidence really comes down to how much work you are prepared to invest in your mindset first.  When you do that, it will be reflected in how you deal with others, the actions you take, the decisions you make and ultimately the success you have in growing your business.

All the best for your business success and may you create the business of your dreams!
